Plants' Omega-3 Fatty Acids that Break Down into EPA/DHEA which = Anti-Inflammation!

The Omega-3 Pathway:

Plant sources provide ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), a precruser to:

  • EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)
  • DHEA (docosahexaenoic acid)

These break down into resolvins, protectins, and maresins - compounds that:

  • Stop runaway inflammation
  • Support the healing of tissues
  • Protect the brain and heart
  • Lower risk of Cancer, Diabetes, Depression & Dementia

  1. Chia seeds (chia seed pudding above)

  2. Flaxseeds

  3. Algae

  4. Hemp seeds

Why are plants a healthier choice than animal-based foods?

Animal Fats break down into Arachidonic Acid, which creates inflammation in the body.

What is Arachidonic Acid?

  • A polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid found in meat, eggs, and dairy
  • It's pro-inflammatory - meaning it triggers the body's immune response
  • Some inflammation is needed (for healing injuries), but excessive arachidonic acid = chronic inflammation!

The Inflammatory Cascade:

1. Animal fats are rich in linoleic acid (omega-6) and arachidonic acid.

2. These get converted into pro-inflammatory eicosanoids (like prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and thromboxanes).

3. These fuel health conditions such as:

  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Arthritis
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Asthma
  • Cancer
  • Chronic pain
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Cognitive decline
  • Depression

The Problem with Arachidonic Acid (as if the health conditions above weren't enough):

Modern Western diets, often referred to as the Standard American Diet (SAD), are heavily skewed toward omega-6 fats (20:1 ratio or higher).

This imbalance amplifies inflammation and blocks omega-3 pathways!

Evidence shows that a low-fat, whole food, plant-based diet is the healthiest diet worldwide for preventing and reversing disease and increasing our HEALTHFUL lifespan.
